Telmap and Cellcom Expand Successful Mobile Navigation service By Offering "Cellcom
Navigator' to Nokia S40 Phones and Other devices - now available for the Nokia
6230i and 6280.
New marketing campaign and wide variety of devices propels mobile navigation
into the mass market
Herzelia, Israel, 27 April 2006 - Telmap (www.telmap.com), a world-leading provider of mobile Mapping and Navigation solutions, today
announced that the Telmap-driven mobile navigation service offered by Israel's
leading cellular operator, Cellcom, is now available for two key Nokia S40 phones
- the 6230i and 6280 - as well as for an extensive list of Windows Mobile, Symbian
and Java devices. The service, called "Cellcom Navigator", is based on Telmap
Navigator, Telmap's unique cross-platform mobile mapping and navigation solution.
With the Cellcom Navigator service now available on the highly popular mass market
S40 phones as well as on other devices running on several platforms, Telmap and
Cellcom are together making it possible for the broadest range of people to enjoy
the benefits of feature-rich, real-time mobile navigation. The expanded offering
builds on the earlier successful launch of the service for a more limited number
of phones and Cellcom is supporting this phase two launch with an aggressive nationwide
marketing campaign.
The Telmap-based service turns each phone into a handheld real-time mobile navigation
and information guide, ideal for both in-car and pedestrian navigation. Following
the initial launch, Cellcom began offering the Telmap-based navigation service
on the Nokia S40 phones in early April, making it one of the first navigation
services worldwide for Nokia's popular S40 series.
The other devices available through Cellcom on which the service is offered include
Sony Ericsson Java phones, Nokia S60 phones and several Windows devices.
"The excellent response in the short time since we launched Cellcom Navigator
confirms that mobile navigation holds strong appeal for a wide range of users,"
commented Adi Cohen, VP Marketing at Cellcom. "We are committed to promoting our
mobile navigation service and with Telmap as our solution partner, we are well
positioned to fulfill our joint goal of leading the worldwide trend to bring mobile
navigation to mass volume markets."
Oren Nissim, CEO at Telmap, added. "Working with Cellcom and other leading operators
worldwide to bring real-time mobile navigation to the phones that have the widest
appeal is an important element in our mass market deployment strategy. The launch
of Cellcom Navigator on multiple phones and platforms brings us a step closer
to the point where virtually anyone can find their way, wherever they are, wherever
they want to go, using standard mobile phones. It also proves that mobile navigation
is a compelling offering that can help operators succeed in mass markets."
Feature-rich, real-time navigation and information
Cellcom Navigator guides subscribers along the best route to their desired destination
using voice instructions and high-quality onscreen maps, with turn by turn instructions
for both in-car and pedestrian navigation. It also provides information and direct
dialing to millions of points of interest
(POIs) such as restaurants, hotel, gas stations, theaters and more, and enables
users to share POI addresses and other information with friends and colleagues
via SMS. The service provides full coverage in Israel and users can purchase packages
for specific European markets and the United States, which can be used with the
roaming service on their phones.
