Bluefire Security Technologies Announces Support for Symbian OS-Based Mobile Devices Print E-mail

Move Targeted at Strengthening Presence in European and Asian Markets

BALTIMORE, April 3 -- Bluefire Security Technologies, a provider of security solutions for mobile handheld devices, today announced it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program. The new partnership means Bluefire will fully support the growing market for Symbian OS devices, offering a range of integrated security solutions, including its Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite and VPN. The new products will target devices manufactured by Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson, among others.

Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the operating system that powers today's most popular smartphones. Symbian OS is licensed by the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers and to date, almost 60 million phones based on Symbian OS have shipped worldwide to over 250 major network operators.

"Today's announcement expands Bluefire's support to include three of the largest handset manufacturers using Symbian OS," says Mark Komisky, CEO of Bluefire Security Technologies. "Enterprise customers will have the ability to support ubiquitous mobile security policies across a deployment of mixed mobile devices based on Symbian OS. Our participation in the Symbian Platinum Program will allow Bluefire to further expand in Europe and Asia, where Symbian is the predominant mobile operating system."

Symbian OS phones are growing in popularity. Symbian's financial figures for 2005 show that Symbian OS phone shipments grew more than 136% compared to the previous year. According to technology analyst firm Gartner, by the end of 2006 smartphone sales will reach 87m with Symbian OS owning 83% of the market share.

"Enterprises are increasingly equipping employees with Symbian 0S-based phones to mobilize their work force, but whether it's for push email or for remotely accessing company databases or files, security must be a priority," said Simon Garth, vice president of marketing at Symbian. "The addition of Bluefire to the Symbian Platinum Program underscores our joint commitment to provide the safest possible mobile information exchange, whether personal or business related, over Symbian OS-based phones."
