ZoneTag enables Mobloggers (Symbian S60) to tag photos with the cell tower location Print E-mail

ZoneTag is an innovative application for Fickr users, enabling simple upload from a Symbian Series 60 device with relative ease - the app automatically tags photos with the capture location, based on the cell tower position.

Some Features:

  • Photos are uploaded over an Internet connection - data plan required
  • ZoneTag works on Nokia 6620, 6670, 6680, 6681, 6682, 7610 models. (It is likely to also work on Nokia 3230, 6630, 6260.)
  • Obviously developed for US-based users, the application is supported by Cingular's Media Unlimited data plan and T-Mobile's Internet plan (t-zones plan is not supported)

Yours truly was planning on testing the app and providing results, however, my mobile plan is not supported... there's a big surprise! Please note, mobile device users can easily upload to their flickr photo gallery sans this application. The flickr FAQ provides instructions for creating a spcial email address that you can use from your phone (data plan required). Simply capture, email and specify a subject line and a description... send via your mobile email. The Nokia LifeBlog application is supported by flickr and settup instructions are found HERE. Flick provides a name serve along with a spcial user/pw pair associated with your flickr photo gallery. Flickr users that are also wishing to blog to their Blogger account can also assign a setting so that images are sent to your blogger account at the same time. I acctually did this from a recent conference in Orlando, Florida... capturing numerous images, then using lifeblog I sent to flickr and to my blogger account... (See a smaple image here that was blogged using my Nokia 6682) I did run into some issues when other people that had RSS feeds setup from my blog had some crazy results due to the embedding of images. Given that flickr is owned by Yahoo! and blogger owned by Google, this is no big surprise.

A word of caution... it is suggested that you capture images in a low resolution in order to minimize data charges and those pesky roaming data fess if you happen to be travelling. If you's like a moblogging solution that can minimize costs see Cognima's Shozu moblogging application.
