SAN FRANCISCO--March 13, 2006--Six Apart, the leader in blogging software and
services for individuals and businesses, today announced that it has acquired
SplashBlog for an undisclosed amount.
SplashBlog is a mobile photo blogging application and service that allows users
to instantly publish photos from a camera phone to a blog.
According to Six Apart, the acquisition further demonstrates the company's commitment
to bring the latest developments in mobile technologies to the users of the company's
Movable Type, TypePad and LiveJournal blogging software and services. Six Apart
users can already send posts to their blogs via cell phones, and the addition
of SplashBlog's team and technologies allows the company to leverage the rapidly
developing advancements in mobile technologies.
"Six Apart has long taken a leading position on mobile blogging," said Barak
Berkowitz, Six Apart's chief executive officer. "The addition of the SplashBlog
team and the rich mobile blogging technologies they have developed will help assure
that our users will continue to have the best user experience and most advanced
features available when they blog from mobile devices and cell phones."
The SplashBlog photo blogging solution includes client software that runs on
a wide variety of camera phones and a photo hosting service that provides a seamless
link between the mobile phone and web service, with two-way syncing. With SplashBlog,
users can capture photos on their camera phone and upload them to splashblog.com
with a single click to share with friends and family. In addition to uploading
photos, SplashBlog users can subscribe to their friends and family photo blogs
to view and comment on them from their mobile device.
SplashBlog currently supports all leading mobile platforms, including Palm OS,
Windows Mobile and Symbian and will work across all mobile operator networks.
The SplashBlog team will be responsible for integrating their wireless sync protocols
