WHERE Lets Users Share Photos, Connect with Friends, Publish Content about Events
From Cell Phones and the Web
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.---March 21, 2006--Camera phone users have a new way to connect,
share photos and find out what's going on nearby using cell phones and WHERE (www.where.com), a new photo sharing service from uLocate. With the explosion of camera phones
and WHERE, people can now connect in a unique way, as millions of users become
producers of mobile user-generated content.
WHERE users can find new events nearby, see what their friends are up to and
contribute their own content from their mobile phone or the WHERE Web site. WHERE
photos and content are organized by cities, schools, hangouts, events and people.
Photos are displayed in interactive slideshows which, with WEB 2.0 standards,
can be placed into any external blog, Web site or even a MySpace profile, letting
WHERE users interact with users on popular social networking sites.
The 15-25 age group, sometimes referred to as Generation Y or Millenials, is
57 million strong. Roughly 84% have cell phones and 47% will have camera phones
in 2006. Representing a purchasing power of $172 billion per year, Generation
Y will be 32% of the population in 2010.
"WHERE enables a new kind of self-expression that informs, entertains and connects
people through the media they create," said Walt Doyle, President and CEO of uLocate
Communications. "People between 15 and 25 are ahead of the curve when it comes
to adopting new wireless applications, as evidenced by how quickly they embraced
texting and person-to-person picture messaging. By converging the Internet and
mobile communications, we're giving Generation Y the power to express their creativity
in new ways and stay connected wherever they are."
