SIPquest has announced that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OST.
As a Platinum Partner, SIPquest is extending personalized
control of communications services through Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solutions over Wi-Fi, GSM, and CDMA network interfaces
to the Symbian OS ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the open
operating system that powers today's most popular smartphones. Symbian OS is licensed
by the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers and, to date, almost 48 million
phones based on Symbian OS have shipped worldwide.
Today, the SIPquest Mobile Assistant works with Symbian OS phones to deliver
instant messaging, presence and corporate directory services to IP PBX users.
According to David Hattey, president and CEO of SIPquest, "As a member of the
Symbian Platinum Program, SIPquest is delighted to work with Symbian to bring
functionally rich VoIP solutions to Symbian OS phones and thereby satisfy the
needs of users that depend on dual mode-WiFi and GSM or WiFi and CDMA-features."
Symbian OS phones are growing in popularity worldwide. As of Q3 2005, Symbian
OS phone shipments grew more than 131% compared to the same quarter last year.
According to technology analyst firm Canalys, overall global shipments of smartphones
are up 183% year-on-year in Q3 2005 with Symbian emerging as the market leader.
"With the rapid growth of the smartphone market, multimedia services have become
a fundamental part of today's advanced open-standards based mobile phones," said
Jerry Panagrossi, vice president of US operations, Symbian. "The addition of SIPquest
to the Symbian Platinum Program underscores our joint commitment to bring mobile
VoIP technology and compelling Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) solutions to the
ever expanding and increasingly sophisticated Symbian OS ecosystem."
