Symsource announce unique mobile platform to radically increase usage of rich premium services Print E-mail
Written by Symsource
Tuesday, 11 October 2005
Symsource Ltd, experts in mobile phone technology, today announced the launch of Mo'Messages, and Mo'Secure, supporting all major open mobile phones.

With Mo'Messages, mobile service providers can take advantage of the advanced capabilities of today's mobile phones to increase not only the number of users of their services, but also to ensure users come back time and time again.

By enabling rich, branded, easy to use on-phone interfaces to mobile services, without the complexity and awkwardness of WAP, thanks to a unique mechanism for sending rich data via SMS, service providers no longer need to rely on plain text SMS and can begin to differentiate their services to increase customer loyalty. Service providers, SMS aggregators and network operators will benefit from higher volumes of messages, as well as the ability to utilize otherwise unusable keywords on premium shortcodes.

Symsource will be giving away a demonstration version of the Mo'Messages technology at the Smartphone Show in London's Excel centre October 11th and 12th, in the form of Mo'Sudoku, a great mobile phone version of the classic puzzle game. Mo'Sudoku is available now for licensing and can be completely customised with a licensee's brand and imagery to tie in with promotional campaigns.

Complementing Mo'Messages, Symsource also announced Mo'Secure, a complete application and content delivery and security system that is secure throughout the chain from copyright owner, through wired and wireless networks, to the end user holding a valid license. By integrating license purchasing and validation, content and executable encryption and over-the-air (OTA) registration, rights to content and applications are protected and complex barriers are removed allowing users to complete the whole purchase without leaving the comfort of their mobile phone. In addition, Mo'Secure supports subscription and pool licensing models, all through a customizable, web based license management system. With Mo'Secure, the hard work of finding channels, building copy protection and collecting revenue for your application or game is done for you, enabling small development teams to quickly ship their applications and begin making sales.

"The Mo' platform family of products addresses the issues of complexity and lack of transparency that stop the rest of us from taking advantage of the fantastic features available from today's mobile devices. Too often an otherwise exciting product requires users to connect their phone to a PC or manually configure complex settings, thereby excluding the vast majority of mobile phone owners." said Ian Weston, Symsource CEO. "Content and service providers using Mo'Messages get a huge advantage over their competitors because users keep coming back to them time and time again and associate the service with the provider's brand, building trust and inspiring them to spread the word to their friends, family and colleagues."

"What we are conveying here is that Mo' is More Mobile - more users more frequently spending more money on more content and more services, making more money for mobile businesses from retailers to network operators." said Tim Ocock, Head of Business Development. "Studies show that if the price is made clear, consumers will make more use of services, not less. By incorporating our technology into billed services, customers can keep track of repeat billing subscriptions and account balances, and thereby feel more confident about sticking with their favorite suppliers."

Examples of the products that are being built with Mo' platform technologies include:

  • Interactive television tie-ins, such as reality show voting and game shows
  • On-phone shops for ringtones, wallpapers and games
  • Rich, interactive, graphical interfaces for directory enquiries and other information services such as news, sports and weather, no longer constrained by plain text
  • Secure, encrypted, authenticated mobile commerce payment, financial services and bank account interfaces
  • Enterprise asset tracking, auditing and data collection applications Localised SMS applications
  • Mobile interfaces to popular internet web services
  • Adver-games, linked to promotional campaigns and carrying rich brand imagery, from the Mo'Games suite, including Mo'Sudoku, available in a special demonstration version at the Smartphone Show.

Speaking about Mo'Secure, Symsource Vice President of Engineering, Kevin Dixon, said "Because of the rapid growth in the number of mobile phone applications and paid for downloads, the unfortunate fact is that the threat of piracy in such a rich market is high, and existing technical solutions such as IMEI linked serial numbers just don't cut it. Consumers do want to take full advantage of the capabilities of their devices, but with 95% of phone owners unable or unwilling to use PC based online software stores, it is obvious that there is a huge gap to fill. At Symsource, we looked for a solution for our own applications, and found nothing suitable, so we built it ourselves and are making it available to other application developers."

Mo'Secure offers a complete end to end solution for discovering, purchasing and licensing great mobile applications and content, built upon proven, state of the art AES encryption technology.

The Mo' platform technology is available now for existing and future phones with Java MIDP or Symbian OS. Mo' platform technologies support all wireless mediums including SMS, WAP, HTTP and forthcoming IP based message services, enabling a smooth migration for service users to future wireless networks. Please contact Symsource for more information on licensing and integration terms and conditions.

Symsource expects to announce the first licensees of the Mo' platform before the end of 2005.
