SRS Labs Debuts SRS WOW XT for TI OMAP Processor-Based Symbian OS Phones at the Smartphone Show Print E-mail
Written by SRS Labs
Tuesday, 11 October 2005

SANTA ANA, Calif., Oct. 10 -- SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ:SRSL) , one of the world's leading providers of audio technology solutions, announced today that the company is unveiling its plans to release a specialized version of its SRS WOW XT stereo and bass audio enhancement suite WOW XT(TM) for Symbian OS-based handsets using Texas Instrument Incorporated's (TI's) OMAP(TM) 2 platform at the upcoming Smartphone Show at the Excel Centre, in London, from Oct. 11 - 13, 2005.

Working with the TI Ecosystem team, SRS has developed this mobile solution to deliver an advanced audio enhancement implementation. This low-level, tightly integrated solution reduces time to market for OEMs and delivers superior sound quality and features to TI OMAP processor based handsets running Symbian OS.

"As music, gaming and video applications for mobile phones continue to grow, sound quality features are increasingly important for the best user experience," said Markus Tremmel, worldwide manager of TI's Cellular Systems Ecosystem. "With the extended features in SRS WOW XT on the OMAP Platform, TI is able to deliver a new level of enhanced audio experience for consumers."

SRS is licensing this new solution for SRS WOW XT directly to handset makers to enhance the sound quality of all music, DVB-H, and video played over the handset's small speaker(s), earphones and handset accessories (such as connected speaker / cradles).

"By working with TI's wireless team, SRS Labs has implemented a tightly integrated software solution with the flexibility to deliver the best possible sound quality over any and all of the speakers, earphones and accessories associated with the handset," said Joanna Skrdlant, senior director of emerging markets and platform development for SRS Labs. "TI's OMAP processors have been a key platform in our mobile entertainment strategy and it is exciting to work with TI to deliver next generation audio enhancements to customers of the TI OMAP 2 platform."

SRS WOW XT is a valuable audio enhancement suite that provides award-winning 3D stereo and bass enhancement that overcomes the physical limitations of the small speaker drivers found in wireless phones. It is the only fully customizable solution that delivers world-class patented stereo and bass enhancement and utility applications all in one package. For mobile phone makers, WOW XT can dramatically improve a new wireless subscriber's first impression when initially trying a mobile entertainment application, making good sound quality a must-have in the eyes of service providers.

Technologies included in the SRS WOW XT solution:

SRS 3D(R): The industry's most immersive 3D stereo for one or two
small-sized speakers or earphones, with notable extreme "width" for
   stereo speaker-enabled handsets.

FOCUS(R): Elevates the sound image from within the handset's tiny
speakers, providing a clearer, larger sound image up and out of the
handset itself.  Also provides clarity to vocals and high frequencies.

TruBass(R): An industry-leading psychoacoustic bass enhancement
technology that improves the perception of bass frequencies from speakers
and headphones that, under normal conditions, could not produce these
frequencies due to the inherent low frequency cut off and driver size
   limitation.
