RoadSync, Showcasing Support for Mobility Features in Exchange Server 2003 Service
Pack 2. RoadSync for Symbian OS based UIQ Smartphones to Feature Direct Push and
Remote Wipe Security
LONDON-- Oct. 11, 2005-- At The Symbian Smartphone Show
in London, DataViz, Inc., leading provider of Office compatibility solutions for
over 21 years, today announced a public preview of its mobile Microsoft Exchange
Server ActiveSync enabled client, RoadSync, with support for select mobility features
of Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on Symbian OS. Based on the Exchange
Server 2003 ActiveSync protocol licensed directly from Microsoft, RoadSync offers
secure, wireless, direct synchronization of corporate Outlook e-mail, attachments,
calendar and contacts for non-Microsoft smartphones and mobile devices, such as
the popular Symbian OS and UIQ-based Sony Ericsson P910 series. With RoadSync,
companies who rely on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for their corporate messaging
and collaboration needs are able to further utilize their existing server investment
and deploy a low-cost, easy-to-implement mobility strategy for their workforce
that does not require any middleware servers. In addition, they have the ability
to choose from a range of mobile devices found in the market and deploy a solution
without any additional setup or recurring service fees commonly associated with
today's alternatives for wireless e-mail.
"The commitment from mobility experts like DataViz has been crucial to providing
Exchange Server 2003 customers with an added level of connectivity, which allows
them to maximize the potential of their mobile workforce," said Donna Conner,
Senior Product Manager of Exchange Server marketing at Microsoft Corp. "With this
version of RoadSync from DataViz, Exchange Server 2003 customers benefit from
the enhanced ability to always be connected to their Outlook e-mail, calendar
and other data and to instantly receive and send updated Exchange Server data
on a variety of mobile devices."
"Mobility and wireless e-mail, in particular, are clearly emerging as top priorities
for an increasing number of businesses," said Brendan Press, Marketing Director
for Sony Ericsson. "With RoadSync's inclusion of SP2 features, the P910 smartphone
is among the first to demonstrate this compelling, highly scalable solution for
direct synchronization with Exchange. It is solutions like RoadSync that illustrate
the true power of the P910 as a business tool, highly targeted towards the enterprise."
"Symbian is pleased to see DataViz evolve their RoadSync solution to deliver
the upcoming ActiveSync SP2 mobility features on Symbian OS. RoadSync allows Symbian
OS customers, the world's leading handset manufacturers, to offer products that
bring together the latest mobile benefits of Exchange Server 2003 with Symbian
OS, the world's leading mobile operating system for smartphones," Simon Garth,
VP, Marketing, Symbian Ltd.
This public preview supports Symbian OS based UIQ smartphones. The following
new features will be available with RoadSync for UIQ when installed in combination
with the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2:
-- Seamless Direct Push Technology.
Support for Direct Push Technology ensures that the device automatically receives
new e-mail and other PIM data from a company's Exchange Server. RoadSync uses
an HTTP connection with industry-standard SSL encryption to securely push e-mail,
calendar and contact notifications to and from the device.
-- Remote Wipe Security Feature.
Through central device management tools included with Exchange Server, IT managers
can trigger a remote wipe that removes all of the Exchange data from the device.
This new security feature will help to ensure corporate data is not compromised
when devices are lost or fall into the wrong hands.
"Wireless e-mail is rapidly moving into the messaging mainstream," said Carmi
Levy, Senior Research Analyst with Info-Tech Research Group. "Record U.S. subscriber
growth rates between 2004 and 2005, coupled with the emergence of advanced smartphones
and carrier support, are making robust mobile messaging increasingly viable for
a wider audience. Solutions like RoadSync, which integrate directly with Exchange
and require no additional middleware, can minimize the technology's current cost
and resource barriers and allow more businesses to readily leverage the benefits
of mobile e-mail."
"We are excited to announce the availability of our public preview for RoadSync
that incorporates the much-anticipated push and remote wipe features of the ActiveSync
protocol," said Ilya Eliashevsky, Product Manager, DataViz, Inc. "Both mobile
workers and IT professionals will benefit from these new features. Mobile workers
will get always-up-to-date delivery of critical e-mail and other Outlook data
on their smartphone, which in essence gives them `Blackberry-like' functionality.
Through centralized management tools, including the new remote wipe feature, IT
departments will be able to more securely manage their company's critical Exchange
data that has been synchronized to a user's mobile device."
