This new document discusses the video file formats and the application programming
interfaces needed when creating video applications. On completing this white paper
you should be able to write a video application that plays local or streamed content.
Symbian OS provides developers with many options for creating rich multimedia
and delivering it to consumers. This white paper examines how to use the capabilities
of Symbian OS to play video content. The paper will be of interest to developers
who work with Symbian C++ video applications.
The Symbian OS v7.0s (and platforms based on it, for example, Series 60 Platform 2nd Edition) utilizes a new middleware component called the Multimedia
Framework (MMF) to perform all video playback (both local and streamed) operations.
The MMF is based on the ECOM plug-in architecture of Symbian OS. This white paper
discusses the video file formats supported by and the application programming
interfaces of this plug-in, along with a number of related components.
