Available soon: ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 – Symbian UIQ: the first on-board navigation kit for Symb Print E-mail
Written by Route 66
Wednesday, 09 March 2005
Because of the exploded demand for portable navigation systems and the surge in smart phone sales that now by far exceeds PDA sales, ROUTE 66 has developed "ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ", the first on-board navigation kit for Symbian UIQ mobile phones and for mobile people.

"ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ" turns your Symbian UIQ mobile phone into a wireless navigation system up to house number accuracy that requires no further subscriptions. Don’t worry! Of course, you can still receive or make telephone calls while you are navigating from door to door through one of the countries of Western Europe. How to start navigating? All you need to do to get started is to insert the Memory Stick Duo (with navigation software and map pre-installed) into your mobile phone. Then switch on the Bluetooth GPS receiver, launch "ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006", select the GPS receiver and off you go! Sorry, but we cannot make it any simpler than this!

"ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ" is an indispensable tool in your car, on your bike and when you’re walking. As soon as your Symbian UIQ mobile phone is connected to the GPS receiver and your exact position has been determined, turn-by-turn voice instructions and on-screen directions will guide you to your destination. If, for whatever reason, you miss a turn and go off course, then your route is immediately recalculated. The GPS data like time, date, geographic coordinates, speed, driving direction, altitude and number of visible satellites can also be displayed on the screen of your Symbian UIQ mobile phone.

In "ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ" you can set such preferences as the type of route (shortest or fastest), your means of transportation (car, lorry or pedestrian), the distance units (kilometres or miles) and the volume of the voice instructions. The fuzzy address search engine helps you quickly find your addresses by accepting short SMS-style text input. You can also search for your contacts' addresses and add them as waypoints to your route or show them on the map. This way, you can quickly navigate to your family, friends or business partners. Furthermore, you can navigate to any location chosen from a big collection of points-of-interest, including hotels, restaurants or petrol stations. You can search for points-of-interest in a radius of 10 (6), 20 (12), 50 (30) or 100 (60) kilometres (miles) from your current position and directly dial them to make a reservation or inquiry before going there. The history feature and favourites feature allow selection of your most recent and most popular destinations. Apart from 2D map view, you can also switch to bird view, displaying the map in a realistic 3D view. When you drive at night, you can keep a clear view on the road by using colours of low intensity to display the map.

With “ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ” you can automatically download up-to-date traffic information from the ROUTE 66 web site via a GPRS connection onto your Symbian UIQ mobile phone even when you are on the road. This non-stop FREE service helps you via dynamic routing to avoid traffic jams, road works or accidents and is available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

In summary, "ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ" is a must for everyone looking for an affordable, flexible and powerful navigation system!

“ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ” is compatible with all Symbian UIQ mobile phones featuring an external Memory Stick Duo slot, Bluetooth wireless technology, Symbian OS v7.0 or higher and UIQ user interface v2.0 or higher. This includes Sony Ericsson (P800, P900, P910, http://www.66.com/.

The "ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 - Symbian UIQ" kit consists of:
