SALT LAKE CITY--Feb. 16, 2005--Fonix Speech, an operating division of Fonix(R)
Corporation (OTCBB: FNIX), an integrated communications carrier providing telecommunications
services and value-added speech technologies, will demonstrate an upgraded version
of Fonix VoiceDial(TM) for Symbian-based mobile/wireless devices at 3GSM World
Congress, Cannes, France, February 14 - 17, Hall 1, Booth C23.
Symbian supports devices manufactured by Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Siemens, Motorola,
FOMA, Panasonic and Arima.
With Fonix VoiceDial, mobile phone and handheld device users access phone contacts
simply by speaking; no need to scroll through menus or push buttons, users just
speak the name of the contact. Fonix VoiceDial features highly accurate automatic
speech recognition (ASR) suited for noisy environments.
Upgrades to our latest VoiceDial offering includes:
-- Improved and more intelligible output from our Fonix DECtalk 4.6.3 text-to-speech
(TTS) technology.
-- Increased accuracy and faster speech recognition.
-- Broader platform support for additional Symbian operating systems: UIQ 2/2.1
and Nokia Series 60 1/2.
Benefits of the new VoiceDial upgrades for Symbian devices include:
-- The new Fonix DECtalk 4.6.3 provides better sounding TTS voices with improved
word pronunciation. It also includes enhancements that eliminate abnormalities
in the spoken text, and Fonix has incorporated additional voices for the assistive
market.
-- The new VoiceDial includes Fonix VoiceIn 4.0.1 ASR, which is more accurate
in noisy conditions and is 50 percent faster at recognizing the speech.
"With the increasing adoption of Symbian UIQ and Nokia Series 60 devices, Fonix
is committed to working with mobile device manufactures to optimize our award-winning
software for this platform," says Tim K. Hong, Fonix VP of Mobile/Wireless. "Fonix
looks forward to extending VoiceDial's capabilities to Symbian's rapidly growing
customer base."
Canalys, a market research firm, estimates that Nokia shipped an impressive 4.9
million Smartphones in the last quarter -- a new record -- increasing its market
share substantially, both year on year and sequentially (from 30.8 percent to
45.4 percent).
