ACCESS Provides Wireless Mobile Browsing Capabilities on Texas Instruments OMAP2420-based Devices Print E-mail
Written by ACCESS
Tuesday, 15 February 2005

TOKYO, Japan / NEWARK, CA, USA / OBERHAUSEN, Germany – February 15, 2005 – ACCESS Co., Ltd., (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and Internet access technologies, today announced that the ACCESS NetFront® browser has been ported to run on Texas Instruments Incorporated’s (TI’s) OMAP2420.

Now, users of OMAP™ processor-based mobile device - including FOMA® phones, Smartphones, PDAs, 3G handsets and 2G/2.5G handsets - can use NetFront’s advanced Internet browsing capabilities.

By incorporating NetFront with the TI OMAP2420, users will now be able to easily browse the Internet, quickly view and retrieve Web content, watch streaming video clips, and play video games on OMAP2420-based mobile terminals. NetFront browser, on the OMAP2420, delivers an advanced Internet browsing experience with a comprehensive feature-set that includes support for WAP 2.0, WML, HTML 4.01, and cHTML as well as unique technologies like Rapid-Render™, an incremental rendering technology that significantly accelerates the presentation of Web pages, and Smart-Fit Rendering™, a rendering technology that intelligently renders Web pages to fit the screen width of mobile devices, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling. In addition, NetFront is the only mobile browser in the world to provide integrated support for Adobe® Reader® and Adobe’s ubiquitous portable document format (PDF).

“We are pleased to be working with a leader in the mobile multimedia space and extending our NetFront browser to now give users of OMAP2420-based devices a powerful Internet browsing experience,” said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO of ACCESS. “NetFront is one of the most advanced browsers for the global beyond-PC market, and is therefore perfectly equipped to power the wide variety of TI OMAP processor-based devices such as digital televisions, PDAs and Smartphones.”

TI´s OMAP platform is comprised of high-performance processors, a strong software infrastructure and comprehensive support network for the rapid development of differentiated Internet appliances, 2.5G and 3G wireless handsets and PDAs, portable data terminals and other multimedia-enhanced devices. TI’s OMAP 2 architecture enhances the mobile entertainment capability on portable devices.  The OMAP2420 includes the benefits of the OMAP 2 architecture’s parallel processing, giving users the ability to instantly run applications and operate multiple functions simultaneously without quality of service compromises.

“ACCESS’ NetFront combined with TI’s OMAP2420 provides users with a robust mobile Internet experience with full browser capabilities. NetFront offers a familiar Web-based user interface for consumers to increase the usability of their multimedia phone and boost the uptake of data application usage and revenue for operators,” said Paul Werp, TI worldwide director of marketing, Cellular Systems.

ACCESS will be demonstrating its complete advanced solutions for mobile at 3GSM World Congress 2005 in stand G15 (Hall 2). ACCESS will be demonstrating its NetFront browser solution for OMAP2420 at the TI stand B6 (Hall 1).
