Series 60 Device Spotlight: Nokia 6630 Print E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham
Monday, 08 November 2004
Nokia executives were pleased to share the news with attendees of NMC 2004 in Monaco that the trucks are on the road and the Nokia 6630 WCDMA/EDGE device is hitting the shelves... this device is expected to be the "hot" ticket this Christmas season... it's on my list!

The Nokia 6630 imaging phone is the first Series 60 WCDMA/EDGE device from Nokia. In addition to MMS, e-mail, Bluetooth, WAP 2.0 (XHTML) browsing, and Java" technology, the device features an integrated 1.3-megapixel camera with a whopping 6x zoom. The Nokia 6630 imaging phone is ideally suited to both business and mobile consumer applications.

As "truckloads" of 6630's take to road it's expected that this device will be the phone of choice for the Holliday season. Optimized for subscribers to high-speed 3G communication networks, this device will be the entry point for consumers of interactive mobile entertainment services like Visual raido, 2-way video messaging, and even Mobile TV. The extra bundles features targetted at PIM, Synchronization, and security ensure that this device is also a practical enterprise solution for the mobile workforce.

Developers are already delivering solutions that extend the functionality of this device and there will no doubt be numerous applications hitting the streets in the near future given the projected uptake of this "sporty" little device. An example... popular developer Packetvideo (www.pv.com) has their PAcketvideo two-way video communicator solution whcih drives the 2-way video conferencing enabled via the 6630. This solution provides for the synchronous two-way voice and video conversations and video conferencing with picture-in-picture and call recording options.

Other recently announced application/services that are ideally suited to run on this device [and other Series 60 devices] include LifeBlog - (version 1.5 was officially announced at NMC 04) whcih now boasts numerous new mobile and PC related features as well as the enabling of personal mobile multi-media blogging - and the QuickOffice suite of applications designed to synchronize and connect mobile users with enterprise "Office" applications. USers can edit & save Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint® files directly to a Series 60 phone.
