Provides Powerful Vector Mapping Engine For Java-Enabled Mobile Phones and PDAs
(Minneapolis) ObjectFX, a leader in delivering dynamic location-based services
from a robust suite of 100 percent Java/J2EE software components, announced today
that it has created a Micro Edition (ME) of its premier SpatialFX platform. This
new offering will enable developers of rich content for small wireless device
applications to quickly develop interactive maps and other location-enabled services
directly within these devices.
SpatialFX ME is based upon an entirely new framework developed to deliver both
maximum functionality and optimal performance, within the constraints imposed
by small device environments. The SpatialFX ME framework is highly pluggable and
extensible, allowing application developers to build spatial applications customized
to meet their specific needs. Examples of this extensibility include:
• Definition of application specific maps and customized map layers.
• Creation of custom spatial objects representing business entities.
• Display of spatial data integrating a variety of external data sources.
• Control over spatial data rendering upon the map.
SpatialFX ME allows developers to create applications where users can download
a city or other area of interest, along with point of interest data, such as bus
stops, hotels, gas stations, etc., and keep this data resident on the small device.
This allows users to access the map and other data as often as they’d like without
incurring additional airtime charges, or waiting for the network to respond with
a new map for each request.
In addition to the new pluggable and extensible Java framework, SpatialFX ME
also comes with complete documentation including user manual, extensive JavaDoc,
and examples for both Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) and Personal Profile
based devices.
Combined with the emerging availability of GPS position information from cell
phones, the maps can be centered on the user’s current location, creating a “visual
compass.” Development of other applications, such as Friend Finder, Personal Yellow
Pages, and LBS games are also possible using SpatialFX ME. In addition to meeting
many corporate needs, applications for SpatialFX ME also exist within the Homeland
Security and Defense markets.
“We are thrilled to be offering the wireless industry true vector mapping for
small devices that can be tied to powerful back-end server technology,” said ObjectFX
President and CEO, Barry J. Glick. “SpatialFX has great potential as location-enabled
wireless applications become more available in the consumer, business, and government
markets.”
Spatial FX ME is available now. Information on the product can be obtained by
