AppForge Releases Next Major Version of Award-Winning Mobile Application Development Software Print E-mail

AppForge Crossfire 5.5 provides cross-platform mobile application development using the Microsoft C# language.

ATLANTA (Oct. 26, 2004) -- AppForge, Inc., a leader in multi-platform mobile and wireless application development solutions, today announced the next major version of its award-winning AppForge Crossfire product. AppForge Crossfire version 5.5 is the first mobile application development tool to provide application development for Palm OS, Symbian and Pocket PC mobile devices using the Microsoft Visual C# development environment. Other significant features of the new software version include built-in support for radio frequency identification technology (RFID), support for Microsoft Windows Mobile-Based Smartphone, Motorola A1000 devices and support for Pocket PC 2003 second edition extended features.

"AppForge Crossfire 5.5 is a breakthrough product for the mobile development community," said Gary Warren, Chairman and CEO, AppForge. "This product transforms Microsoft's C# and Visual Basic languages into a true cross-platform development environment. With additional support for RFID and new mobile devices, we are continuing our mission to provide the best mobile application development technologies in the world. Improvements such as these further enable AppForge customers to develop and deploy rich applications to more than 300 mobile devices in the world, regardless of operating system."

"Working with AppForge, we were able to provide a mobility tool for an under served market, which includes all the customers who use Novell GroupWise," said Rick Newcombe, Director of Sales, Omni Technology Solutions, Inc.  "The addition of C# support also makes it easier for us to find staff, since many of the computer science programs now teach programming in C#.  It will open up a whole subset of potential employees."

Crossfire 5.5 is the first industry standard mobile development tool to provide built-in support for RFID. As a result of major retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target requiring suppliers to implement RFID, the technology has gained traction as a means of improving inventory management and supply chain visibility.  With Crossfire 5.5, developers can now use Microsoft Visual Basic or Visual C# to develop bar code or RFID applications for all industrial mobile devices.

"In light of the growing trend for using or requiring suppliers to use RFID to manage inventory, Crossfire 5.5 allows us to provide applications that let our customers meet those requirements and maintain the efficiency and convenience of using a mobile device in the process," said Randy Lunsford, Director of Sales, POSDATA.  "Customers, such as Boeing, Honeywell and FedEx, who were limited to fixed portal type solutions now realize the full advantages of portability and mobility."

With Crossfire 5.5, AppForge developers now can leverage all of the most popular mobile devices in the marketplace including support for Microsoft Windows-Based Smartphone and Motorola A1000 devices.  Industry analysts are unified in their opinion that mobile device diversity is on the rise. AppForge "future-proofs" companies from the ever-increasing reality of device diversity in the enterprise.

"An application written for Microsoft Windows-Based Smartphone can now be ported to run on a Nokia Series 60 Smartphone in minutes," said Warren.

Pricing and Availability
AppForge Crossfire 5.5 will be available on November 1st on the AppForge website at www.appforge.com or by calling the sales department at 800-637-5740 or 678-686-9400. The suggested retail price of AppForge Crossfire 5.5 is US $1,000.
