New York, October 22, 2004 - Cardmine, Inc. today announced the introduction
of its Wireless Paper Postcard, a real paper postcard service that allows users
to send picture postcards directly from their wireless camera phone to anyone
in the world via regular postal mail.
“The wireless industry is no doubt one of the fastest moving segments in the
history of the media business. We created a new medium which will enable consumers
on the road to share their photos with their friends back home”, said Harald Neidhardt,
Co-founder of Cardmine.
The Wireless Paper Postcard will be available in November for all users with
email-capable MMS camera phones on select carriers. While Cardmine’s price may
vary for international destinations and a specific carrier, its USA list price
per card is $1.99. Billing will be handled directly through the carrier, with
no prior sign-up or software installation required.
“We are using proprietary technology to process cell phone camera images and
provide on-demand, high resolution digital printing of The Wireless Paper Postcard.
We already have established local mail services worldwide to 235 countries with
our Internet Paper Postcard, used by Procter & Gamble, Chanel, Estee Lauder,
BMW and others”, Neidhardt said.
Cardmine’s system enables people on-the-go to use their camera phones to print
and deliver images and text messages, via regular postal services, to people who
are not connected online. For example, imagine an Internet-user who is booking
a vacation package to the Mediterranean island of Majorca. After the booking,
the travel-website awards the user a credit of 10 free wireless paper postcards
that can be sent from the traveler’s cell phone camera at the beach or elsewhere.
The postcards, which could carry a personal message, would be printed within 24
hours and could bear a sponsor’s logo and contact information (website or 1-800
number) so card receivers can find out about the same package.
Mobile phones have outpaced the number of users connected to the Internet. It
is estimated that in the global market 29 billion digital images will be generated
in 2004 from an installed base of 150 million camera phones. And forecasters are
predicting a compounded annual growth of 50% through 2007.
Cardmine provides a very efficient ASP-solution to Wireless Network Providers
and Advertisers. It builds a database of qualified targets with respective postal
addresses by turning mobile users into “brand ambassadors”. It permits the connection
of the wireless world to the offline world, and permits an advertiser's message
to be carried on branded cards sent by camera phone users to real world mailboxes,
globally or to specifically targeted markets segments.
